![]() ![]() This means that a few great Year One champions (like Krond, Gromma, and Nrakk) are already only available through Time Gates. When Year Four kicks off, with September 2020's High Harvestide event, only the most recent three years' champions will be available (so in Year Five, only champions from years three, four, and five will be in the events). Year Three of Idle Champions ends at the close of the Brightswords event, which starts on August 26, 2020. One last thing that newish players might not be aware of: starting soon, Year One champions will only be available through Time Gates (and the in-game Shop). If you complete either of the other two runs, and then close the gate, you won't receive the one Time Gate piece credit. That means you can grab a new champion, get a few chests from the Free Play, and receive a credit of one Time Gate piece when you close the gate, provided you don't complete any other runs. Still, if your champions are geared enough that you can quickly push your wall, you can get a few extra chests without much trouble, as well as preparing your team for that third variant run.Īlso, the Time Gate Free Play doesn't count as one of your three runs. You only get a chest the first time you achieve these level marks (over the entire Time Gate, not just the free play). Not only can you use it to build favor, for each 100-level mark you achieve, you get a randomly determined chest for the Gate's champion (one at level 100, another at level 200, etc.). That's the equivalent of a Strahd Patron variant, and there's a reason Strahd requires you to have 40+ champions.įor these third (variant adventure) runs, the Time Gate Free Play is a lifesaver. For instance, the Problem Solvers variant for Melf only allows champions with a 13 or higher INT. Other variants require champions with specific attributes, and you may not be able to field enough champions to complete them. For example, the Infamous Assassin variant for Artemis Entreri is tough enough that Gaarawarr gave it a separate guide. 1 Some of those variant adventures can be brutal for new players. You see, the new, third run is randomly chosen from the champion's variant adventures in the event where they first appeared. Finally, you may discover that you're unable to handle the third run. ![]() Secondly, if you're close to having enough Time Gate pieces to open another gate, you may decide you'd rather have the piece credit (and go after another champion) than have more chests. ![]() Well, first of all, sometimes life gets in the way and you don't have the time to complete the gate the way you originally planned to. You may be wondering why you might want to close a Time Gate without completing all of the runs. If you close a Time Gate after completing two or three of the runs, you are not credited any Time Gate pieces. If you close a Time Gate after doing the first run (obtaining the champion), but without completing the other two runs, you get a credit of 1 Time Gate piece. If you close a Time Gate without completing any runs, you get a credit of 2 Time Gate pieces. (In fairness, that FAQ dates back to 2018.) As part of the Time Gate Rework, the number of runs was increased from 2 to 3, but the number of Time Gate pieces you can be credited remains capped at 2. The key word here is " may." According to CNE's (pre-Rework) Time Gate FAQ:įor each reward that you were not able to collect we credit your account with a Time Gate piece when the gate closes, which is 1/6th of another Time Gate run. One big change is the Time Gate piece credit: now, if you open a Time Gate and don't obtain all the rewards, you may get Time Gate pieces back. This can impact on your strategy in ways that don't yet seem to have made it into any of the official guides. In January 2020, CNE did a " Time Gate Rework." One of the big changes in the rework that doesn't seem to have gotten a lot of attention is the expansion of the gates from two runs to three. There are a few things you need to know that don't appear in the typical guide. Over the next few days, you'll probably be reading up about Time Gates. If you're like me, you've been playing for a while, you follow the streams and you read the guides, looking for info to help you bring your play to the next level. With another free Time Gate weekend coming up, I want to alert newish players (like myself) to some potential "trip hazards," and offer some guidance about strategy. ![]()
